Cylinder Retesting Resources

DOT & PHMSA

The Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration sets the regulations for cylinder testing.

Most SCBA and Storage/cascade cylinders are regulated by a special permit number. These numbers indicate the test and life cycle allowed per exemption.  Most composite cylinders have a 15 year life.

Code of Federal Regulations

All DOT Cylinders are required to be hydrostatically retested per the Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR). The increment is typically every 5 years, with some exceptions.

Standard SCBA Cylinders (steel, aluminum or composite), DOT storage/cascade, SCUBA and Oxygen all have a 5 year hydrotest test cycle.

ISO Cylinder Retesting

We are proud to hold the original special permit to be able to hydrostatically test common ISO (International Standard for Organization) Storage/Cascade Cylinders.

Typically, these cylinders were required to be sent out to be ultrasonically tested, but we are now able to hydrostatically test these directly at your location.
